Scale Model Star Wars Boat
Updated: June 20, 2021
Starting with an old, hand made discarded 20-inch long "speed boat" I designed to change this to be a "Star Wars Empirre Boat complete with Storm Troopers.  Everything inside the boat and the aft deck is 3D printed in ABS.  As the boat was 20-inches long a quick conversion of that to a "real" boat of 20 feet means that the boat would turn out to be 1/12 scale.  With the scale now know, 1/12 scale (6 inch) tall characters were eneeded, and two "Storm Troopers" were purchased and the  inside of the boat (cockpit) was built to fit them.

Basic Boat
Starting with an existing boat or building one probably makes little difference. With this boat I knew that the bottom of the hull was quite flat so I know that the thruster would also be flat.  Below are the photos of this basic boat as received.

Obviously much work laid ahead.  The first step was to completely remove all of the existing running gear and other items like the fin and rudder.  Next was to evaluate how an updated drive would fit in.  The new drive motor mounting, propeller shaft, stuffing box, brass propeller that was on hand, and a new rudder were fabricated.  The boat was too slow so a new 3D printed propeller was fabricated.
